You must have an appointment (unless you are bringing a feral cat. See below for Feral Cat Days.) Call (205) 956-0012 to schedule your pet for surgery.
Prepayment is required at the time you make a reservation for your pet(s.) Click to view our Prepayment Policy.
If your pet has an appointment, you must be at Alabama Spay/Neuter at 7:30am. Any pet coming in after 8:00am will be rejected for surgery and you will be asked to reschedule. Allowances can be made for clients with special situations with advanced notice. Due to the high volume of surgeries performed at Alabama Spay/Neuter, we have a very strict surgical schedule that must be followed.
Feral Cats Days are only on Monday and Tuesdays. Feral cats must be in a trap when dropped off for surgery. For the safety of the cat and our staff, we will NOT transfer the cat from a carrier into the trap.
Bring dogs on a secure leash and all cats in a carrier. Cats may not be removed from your vehicle unless in a carrier. If you do not have a carrier, you may purchase one for $5. Cats may not share carriers – 1 cat per carrier. Leave your pets in your vehicle until you have completed the admission form inside.
Pets must have food withdrawn by midnight the night before surgery to reduce the risk of vomiting and aspiration pneumonia during anesthesia. Pets must be kept indoors or confined. Puppies or kittens 4 months or younger may have a small snack (1 tablespoon) until 6:00 AM the morning of surgery.
Alabama State Law requires that your pet must be current on its rabies vaccination. While it is recommended that other vaccines are current, they are not required. If your pet is not current on its rabies vaccination, we are required to vaccinate your pet for $16. If your pet is current, please bring proof in the form of a certificate.
Cats and dogs are released at 4:30 p.m. the same day of surgery (for animals that do not come in on our transport). We close promptly at 5:00 p.m. You will be charged a $10 boarding fee if you do not pick up your pet before close.
We can board your pet the night before or after surgery for an additional fee of $10 per night. Transport patients stay overnight at no charge.
Your pet may have a bath prior to surgery if desired, but baths are strictly prohibited for 7-10 days after surgery.
Upon dropping your pet off for surgery, you will fill out the necessary admission form and a pre-surgical questionnaire. Admission typically takes 10 minutes to complete.
